Getting Married – an introduction

We are very pleased that you are considering being married in Church and are delighted to be able to help you through this exciting and sometimes bewildering experience.

Christian marriage is a special event not only for you but also in the life of the church and is not to be entered into lightly.  We therefore like couples to have an understanding of how the church sees and understands marriage.  This is done through a number of short sessions of gentle exploration with couples before they get married.  This lasts around 3 hours and normally takes place a few weeks before the wedding and prior to the reading of Banns (where these are read).  Where possible this session will be done with other couples and is very informal.

In addition, we encourage couples to visit the church for services before the wedding itself when you will be made very welcome.  You may certainly wish to hear your Banns read.

A rehearsal with the principal participants (Bride, Groom, Best Man and Principal Bridesmaid as a minimum) is normally arranged for a few days prior to the wedding.
