Licensed Lay Minister [Lay Reader] at St Mary’s Church, St Fagans.
On Mothering Sunday Colin Finney was formally licensed as a member of the ministry team at St Mary’s Church joining Archdeacon and Priest in Charge, The Venerable Peggy Jackson. Colin has recently arrived in Wales from the Isle of Man settling in Penarth where he has a daughter. He has another daughter recently moved to Tredegar, a son in Oxford and his eldest daughter has remained in the Isle of Man. Between them there are eight grandchildren. Sadly, his wife Irene a proud Manx lady died two years ago.
Colin’s professional background is; Royal Navy, HM Coastguard, IOM Coastguard and his last appointment before retiring was as the island’s Chief Coastguard and Operations Manager of the Harbours Division.
Becoming a Christian in his 40’s, Colin was until leaving the island; Minister in Charge of a rural church, Warden of Readers [pastoral oversight of the islands 30 Licensed Lay Ministers] and a Lay Canon of Cathedral Isle of Man.
Speaking about his new ministry in the parish of St Fagans and Michaelston-super-Ely, Colin said that he was very excited about joining the team at St Mary’s and that he had been made very welcome by the very friendly people of St Mary’s Church and was slowly finding his way around the parish. He is looking forward to taking an active part in the life of the parish.
His particular passion is helping people new to, or considering exploring, the Christian faith to make those first tentative steps in understanding and participation.
