An overview of the Parish

There are two Churches in the Parish: St Michael’s on the corner of Gelligaer Street and Whitchurch Road and St Andrew and St Teilo’s (usually called just St Teilo’s) on the corner of Woodville Road and Flora Street.

The parish is almost exactly the same as the civil ward of Cathays. Its population is very skewed in favour of young people as the vast majority of people (almost two-thirds!) are in the 18-24 age-group. Most of the housing consists of houses sub-divided into student flats or shared houses. This means that during the summer the population drops to below half of its term time peak. It is difficult to build social cohesion in such circumstances but we are working with groups such as Cynefin Cardiff to increase our engagement with residents via projects such as Cynefin Cardiff . We have a long association with Cardiff University and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama as historically St Teilo’s was the University Church. We welcome students from all the educational institutions of Cardiff. St Teilo’s tradition is based on a robed choir of a high standard so we especially welcome singers of whatever voice! St Michael’s is a more family oriented congregation with a Sunday School.

We have taken up the Seven Sacred Spaces Model to shape our mission life. This website uses these ideas to structure and deliver the information. In the first instance we will concentrate on Worship in the Chapel space.
