This building complete with early Norman tower, was once both a Priory and Parish Church. The Benedictine Priory was founded by Richard le Clare c1160.
After the Glyndwr rising and the burnings of Usk in 1405, much rebuilding took place.
Outside the west porch in the grass, is the tomb of the Jesuit Priest, St David Lewis, who, in 1679, was executed at a spot near the present day Roman Catholic Church in Porthycarne Street.
The organ was brought from Llandaff Cathedral in 1899. It’s long Spanish trumpets are an unusual feature.
