St Dunawd

Bangor is y coed Church

Sant Dunawd, The Parish Church of Bangor is y coed is part of the The Historic Churches of Wrexham Open Church Network. An informative display of photographs and a narration in both Welsh and English, combined with various artifacts illustrate both the history of the church, the village and it’s inhabitants.

St Dunawd was the distinguished Abbot of a huge 7th-century monastery, noted for the slaughter of 1200 monks by the Anglo-Saxons in 61AD. In approximately 1300 a red sandstone building was erected on what remained of the monastery, of which the chancel still stands.
