They used to make extremely good bread in Dwyran and although it is now made elsewhere, Yr Hen Fecws (The Old Bakery), which is right in the centre of the community, has had a new lease of life since it was purchased by Llangeinwen Church and developed as a church hall and community centre for the village and beyond. With the church being sited at one end of the village, with limited car parking, the vision has been to ‘take the church to the people’.
A key part of that has been Café Church, an informal approach to worship where the gospel is brought to life through drama and discussion, accompanied by bacon baps, tea and coffee! Café Church takes place every second Sunday at 10.30am. While building work is continuing at Llangeinwen Church, our regular 11.30am services are also held in Hen Fecws.
Our Friday coffee mornings at 10.30am are a great way for people to meet and make new friends and keep in touch. Similarly, the film club (every other Friday at 7pm) and the Wednesday evening bingo sessions (7.30pm) are popular social events.
Ti a Fi (parents and toddlers) meet on Thursdays at 9.30am and Clwb Cwtsh (a gentle way for anyone to learn Welsh amid a happy group of babies and toddlers) meets at 1.30pm on Wednesdays. Both are Welsh medium events to which non Welsh speakers are welcome. From September more structured opportunities to learn Welsh will be provided by Bangor University’s Wlpan course on Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoon.
As well as all the regular activities we also run a programme of social events, where possible showcasing local talent. Elvis will be with us again in July!
