A brief history of St Tysul’s Church
The history of the church dates back to the 5th century, but it was not until the 13th century that its walls were built of stone. The Western Tower of the church also dates from the 13th century, but was initially only 20 feet high. Four kinds of stone have been used in the Tower’s structure, indicating four periods of construction. The Tower is now more than 70 feet high and houses six church bells including four cast by the celebrated founder Thomas Rudhall.
