The church is known for its warm and loving atmosphere towards each other, visitors are given a very warm family welcome. Pastoral care is an important part of the work of St Luke’s, with lots of visiting by members of the congregation to those who are unwell and also to the wider community. Communion is taken to local sheltered housing complexes on a monthly basis and two services are held in the local care home each month. Being concerned for the environment is shown by being awarded EcoCongregation twice and fighting injustice matters, Fairtrade goods are regularly sold in church to the congregation.
The church is used by the High School for its Carol Service and by different choirs for concerts and rehearsals. There is a Wednesday Club for children and a monthly Messy Church. Different events are held throughout the year to try to engage with the community and provide an opportunity to socialise together. Pontypridd Foodbank was started by St Luke’s and is the base from which its activities are resourced.
